• Wayne Lasky

    Executive Chairman & Founder

    Wayne is the Founder & Executive Chairman of MaxCap Group, responsible for business strategy, execution, key stakeholder relations and capital raising. He has over 15 years of real estate and finance experience having worked on all sides of the table as an originator, lender, asset manager, real estate investor & developer, project manager & Property Manager.

    Wayne holds a double degree, Bachelor of Business Management & Marketing (Hons), graduating Dux from Monash University, Melbourne. Wayne is on the Executive Committee of YPO Australia and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Senior Associate of the Financial Services Institute of Australia (FINSIA).

  • Brae Sokolski

    Executive Director & Founder

    Brae is responsible for driving new business activity across both debt and equity transactions, corporate strategy, and he supports capital raising activities.

    He has extensive industry experience having operated in property and finance markets for over a decade and is a recognised industry expert in real estate debt. Brae has previously worked in senior executive roles within the FMCG industry where he honed his relationship and strategic management capabilities

    Brae holds a Bachelor of Law and Business Management (Hons).

  • Christine Christian

    Non-executive Director

    Christine has significant experience with financial services businesses including being the MD/Chairman of Dun & Bradstreet Consumer Credit Services.. In 2005, she led a private equity secondary buy-out sale of D&B to Carnegie Wylie.

    Christine is a former President of Chief Executive Women and founding Chairman of the Business Information Industry Association of Hong Kong and the Middle East. In June 2020, Ms Christian was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in recognition of her distinguished service to the financial and investment sectors, to women in business, and through support for emerging entrepreneurs.

    Ms Christian holds a Bachelor of Arts and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

  • Mike Roche

    Non-executive Director

    Mike holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Queensland, is a graduate of the AICD, is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (London) and a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.

    Mike has more than 40 years’ experience in the finance sector where he held senior positions firstly as an actuary with National Mutual/AXA and then in investment banking where he provided strategic, financial, merger and acquisition, and capital advice to major corporations, private equity and government clients. Mike spent more than 20 years with Deutsche Bank including 10 years as Head of Mergers and Acquisitions where he advised on major takeovers and privatisations. He stepped down as Deutsche Bank’s Chairman of Mergers and Acquisitions (Australia and New Zealand) in 2016, and was a member of the Takeovers Panel for two terms from 2008 to 2014.

    Mike is a non-executive director at Westfarmers and a director of Macquarie Group, Macquarie Bank and Six Park Asset Management. He is also a small business mentor for Many Rivers Microfinance Ltd.

    Mike co-founded the Sally Foundation and is a panel member of Adara Partners. He has established his own advisory company M R Advisory that provides mergers and acquisitions, and capital advice to government and private sector clients.

  • Ian Cohen

    Non-executive Director

    Apollo Partner, Real Estate, based in Hong Kong.

    Mr. Cohen joined Apollo in 2012. Previously, Mr. Cohen was a member of the acquisitions team of the Real Estate Investing Group at Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing based in Sydney and Hong Kong. Prior to that, Mr. Cohen worked at the Related Companies in New York where he was responsible for the financing, restructuring and sale of portfolio properties across the U.S. Mr. Cohen graduated from Brown University with a BA in International Relations and holds an MBA from The Wharton School and an MA in International Affairs from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). Mr. Cohen is proficient in Mandarin Chinese.

  • Philip Mintz

    Non-executive Director

    Apollo Partner and Head of Real Estate Private Equity, based in New York.

    Mr. Mintz is a Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Apollo’s Real Estate Private Equity business. He joined Apollo in 2015, following Apollo’s acquisition of Venator Real Estate Capital Partners, the Asia-Pacific firm Mr. Mintz founded in 2013 and the manager of the $1 billion Trophy Property Development Fund (“TPD”). Beginning in 2012, Mr. Mintz served as Chief Investment Officer of Winnington Capital in Hong Kong, the prior manager of TPD. Previously, he was the Chief Investment Officer of Asia Pacific Land, Partner at Warburg Pincus and Chief Executive Officer of General Electric Real Estate Asia. Prior to GE, Mr. Mintz was a Director in Mergers and Acquisitions at Merrill Lynch in New York where he focused on real estate transactions, and an Associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Mr. Mintz graduated with an MBA from New York University, a JD from Fordham University, and a BA in political science from Duke University.

  • Bill McWilliams

    Chief Investment Officer

    Bill leads the National Investment team for MaxCap in Australia and is responsible for developing investment strategy, relationship management framework and oversight of deal origination, structuring, negotiation. He has over 20 years’ industry experience, including having spent many years developing business and leading high performing teams at senior levels within National Australia Bank's (NAB) Institutional and Business Bank.

    Bill also brings years of direct credit experience as a Credit Executive at NAB and prior to this, as a Compliance Manager at Deutsche Bank in London.

    Bill holds a Diploma in Finance and Mortgage Broking Management, Certificate IV in Finance and Certificate III in Banking, and is a Senior Associate of the Financial Services Institute of Australia (FINSIA).”

  • David O'Connor

    Distribution Director

    David is responsible for product development, portfolio management and institutional capital solutions, focusing primarily on development of commercial construction and value-add real estate strategies. He has 19 years' industry experience with leading financial services firms and commercial information and insight firms, including Thomson Reuters, Dun & Bradstreet, Westpac and MaxCap .

    David recently led Westpac's Institutional Property division in Melbourne and was responsible for some of the country's largest REITS, wholesale funds, pension funds and family offices.

    David holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Science.

  • David Oudshoorn

    State Director - NSW

    David joined MaxCap in December 2020. He is based in Sydney with a focus on spearheading the future growth of business. He is primarily responsible for the origination and execution of structured real estate finance deals and developing relationships with borrowers, in addition to supporting capital raising activity with both private and institutional investor clients.

    He has more than 15 years’ industry experience in investment and development finance. David joins MaxCap from Qualitas where he was a Senior Director with responsibility for driving their debt and equity business in NSW. Prior to Qualitas, he held senior roles within ANZ’s Institutional Property Group in Sydney and Melbourne along with a number of years at Royal Bank of Scotland in London.

    He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Information Systems from the University of Tasmania.

  • Mark Heaven

    Chief Operating Officer

    Mark is responsible for the corporate and investment operational platform, corporate governance and the corporate financial management function and has 25 years’ experience in finance, strategy, operations and governance, compliance and risk management, including six years at KPMG.

    Over the last 18 years, Mark has held executive roles working in retail and wholesale funds management businesses including Aviva, Colonial, Herschel Asset Management, Perennial Investment Partners and EMR Capital.

    Mark holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) and a Diploma in Financial Services and is a member the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in both Australia, England and Wales.

  • Fidelma Ryan

    Marketing Director

    Fidelma is responsible for the development and implementation of the marketing and brand strategy to drive client engagement.

    She is a senior marketing and communications specialist with over 25 years' experience in the financial services and consulting sectors. Prior to joining MaxCap, Fidelma spent the last six years as the Head of Marketing, Management Consulting & Advisory at KPMG. She has a strong financial services background and a track record of success in developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies both locally and internationally.

    Fidelma has a Master of Business Studies, Bachelor of Commerce (Banking and Finance), Diploma in Marketing and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

  • Simon Hulett

    Head of Direct Investment

    Simon is primarily responsible for the development and execution of MaxCap’s direct investment strategy.

    Simon has over 14 years of acquisition and real estate development experience working across a broad range of asset classes and highly complex projects.

    Most recently, Simon spent more than seven years as Development Director at Charter Hall based in Sydney and Perth, where he led origination, strategy and management of large marquee commercial development projects and value add opportunities. Simon also worked closely with large wholesale and retail capital funds in developing and implementing fund investment strategies.

    Prior to this, he worked for Saracen Properties in Perth and Melbourne across the full life-cycle of various development projects.

    He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and a Graduate Diploma in Property.

  • Ben Wollan

    Investment Director

    Ben is responsible for transaction origination and management, as well as leading the development of new investment products and strategies. He deals with both borrower and investor clients in connection with a range of funds, separate accounts, and stand-alone deals. Ben is responsible for pursuing key strategic initiatives within MaxCap. He also leads MaxCap’s modelling team.

    Ben previously worked as a solicitor, specialising in commercial law and litigation. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce/Laws from the University of Melbourne, and is admitted as a Solicitor in the Supreme Court of Victoria. Ben is also a CFA charter holder.

  • Tom Crapp

    Human Resources Director

    Tom is responsible for the ongoing development of our high performance workplace culture. He is a human performance specialist with extensive experience in leadership development, talent acquisition, capability and change management.

    Early in his career Tom worked in the United Kingdom, managing large scale organisational change projects. Prior to joining MaxCap, he spent the past decade with a boutique consulting firm advising executive leaders and business owners on people leadership strategies.

    Tom holds a Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management & Industrial Relations).

  • Jason Hill

    Chief Risk Officer

    Jason is a credit professional with over 20 years of experience working across a broad suite of businesses in the finance industry. These include Global Credit Ratings, Index Services and Risk Solutions, Banks and Private Debt.

    His expertise includes Credit Risk across multiple industries and asset classes. Jason specialises in Debt, Debt Instruments, and the associated capital stack.

    As the Chief Risk Officer at MaxCap Group, Jason engages with a broad suite of stakeholders and works closely with the MaxCap Investment team.

    Jason holds a University Degree in Economics and a degree in Law from Latrobe University, and Graduate Diplomas in Marketing and Accounting from Monash University.

  • Ben Jones

    State Director - WA

    Ben is responsible for business development and growth of MaxCap’s business in WA, as well as senior relationship management of Borrowers and Corporate, Private and Institutional Investor clients.

    He has over 20 years’ of Australian real estate finance experience across both institutional and commercial banking; having held senior lending and risk roles in both Sydney and Perth for Westpac and NAB. In addition, Ben is an Associate Member of the API, commencing his career as a valuer where he covered all sectors of the West Australian property market.

    Ben holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Property) Curtin University.

  • Johnny Woodhouse

    State Director - VIC

    Johnny has more than 15 years’ industry experience in investment and development finance. He joins MaxCap from National Australia Bank (NAB) where he was an Originations Director in the Bank’s Corporate & Institutional Property team. In that role, Johnny had responsibility for driving NAB’s debt business with family office and fund managers in Victoria.

    Prior to joining NAB, he held roles within ANZ’s Loan Structuring & Execution team in Melbourne and spent several years as a solicitor in the Mallesons Stephen Jaques Banking and Finance team.

    Johnny holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Auckland.

  • Michael Nitschke

    State Director - QLD

    Michael is responsible for business development and growth of MaxCap’s business in QLD, as well as senior relationship management of Borrowers and Corporate, Private and Institutional Investor clients.

    He has more than 18 years’ Australian real estate finance experience, including senior roles at Bank of Queensland as National Manager of Property Finance and at Deutsche Bank as Co-Head of Real Estate Debt.

    Michael holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) RMIT, and Masters of Applied Finance Macquarie University.

  • Ben Klein

    Head of Private Capital

    Ben is responsible for private capital raising, business development and relationship management for our valued private investor base. He has more than 15 years’ experience in finance, sales and the construction market in Melbourne and Sydney.

    Ben has extensive experience dealing with Family Offices and High Net Worth individuals from his years spent in equities markets. Most recently he held a role as National Sales Manager for one of Australia’s largest wholesalers to the Construction industry, dealing directly with developers and builders at the tail end of the development process.

    Ben holds a Bachelor of Business (Marketing), Diploma of Financial Planning and is a Graduate of the NSW Executive Leaders Series.
